The final stage of this year’s Tour of Britain will be contested on Isle of Wight this September.

The final leg of the cycling race will see 100 of the world’s best road racers contest the race finale on September 11.

The 150km island route will start at Ryde and finish at the Needle’s Battery.

Cyclists will have to navigate the Ventnor Hills and 39kms of Military Road, often voted one of the most picturesque roads in Europe. The big finale takes places at the National Trust’s Needles Old Battery where riders will test themselves on the hair pin incline.

A series of rolling road closures will be put in place to accommodate the race. Motorists can expect roads to be closed approximately 50 minutes either side of the race passing through.

Mick Bennett, Tour of Britain race director, said: "I know the Isle of Wight stage is going to be a spectacular and fitting finale to this year’s Tour of Britain.

"Working with our partners on the Island, we’ve designed a route that visits the main towns, shows off its culture and history, and makes sure that the battle to be crowned our 2022 champion goes down to the wire.”

The local Council is working closely with Visit Isle of Wight to help local businesses maximise the benefits of hosting such a prestigious event.
