Around 100 businesses from across Surrey are being offered help to drive their sales overseas, at a major event being run by export body UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Aimed at getting businesses to either start exporting or to expand existing export activity, the half-day seminar: 'Exporting for Growth' will be held at Mercedes Benz World in Woking on Thursday March 13. It will feature expert speakers including Jo Fairley, co-founder of Green & Blacks.
Lewis Scott, regional director for UKTI in the South East, said: “Surrey is a highly-productive county, offering advanced manufacturing and world-class engineering, cutting-edge biotechnology and medical company HQs, along with experts in games software. Surrey companies have the capability and the skilled workforce that are in demand across the world.
“It’s the job of UKTI South East to ensure that all opportunities for export are being exploited by businesses across the region, as economic research consistently shows companies who export to any country, in any financial climate, perform better than those who don’t.
“Events like this are designed to help our local businesses, from bus chassis manufacturers to financial service companies and from small companies with just a few staff to large companies employing hundreds of staff, to take their products to the world.
“Knowledge of your market and knowledge of the practicalities of exporting are crucial. Attending this event and hearing from a number of experts could really help businesses develop their export strategy to find new markets or help companies take their first step into exporting.”
Geoff French, chair of Enterprise M3, also commented: “Exporting has been identified in our Strategic Economic Plan as an important part of both sustained economic growth and economic recovery for the Enterprise M3 area. We are committed to working with key partners, such as UKTI, to significantly increase the number of businesses in Surrey, and throughout the Enterprise M3 area, that export goods and services to overseas markets. This Exporting for Growth seminar is an excellent opportunity for companies to find out more about current and future international business opportunities and the funded assistance that is available to them through UKTI and other export support partners in Surrey.”
Latest HMRC stats reveal that the South East continues to be the biggest regional exporter, with the total value of exports from the South East for the first nine months of the year at £33.4 billion.
Other speakers at the event will include Toni Saraiva, CEO of Enterprise Europe Network; Rob Lewtas, strategic partnership manager for UKTI; and a speaker from Barclays Bank.
