Maidenhead: SDL acquires Donnelly Language Solutions with HSBC and Lloyds support
Maidenhead content management and language software and services leader SDL has acquired Donnelley Language Solutions after securing a £70 million funding package from HSBC UK and Lloyds Bank.
As part of the deal, HSBC UK provided a £35m revolving credit facility to enable the acquisition, with Lloyds Bank providing the remaining £35m.
As a specialist in language linguistic solutions, Donnelley Language Solutions expands SDL’s business, bringing complementary services, technology and a client portfolio from premium sectors such as financial services, life sciences, legal and corporate communications.
Adolfo Hernandez, CEO of SDL, said: “This funding has helped support a significant acquisition for us. It’s part of our strategy to build out our specialist sector expertise in industries such as financial services and life sciences, which account for approximately 30 per cent of the language services market today. Donnelley Language Solutions has proven expertise in these sectors and we hope to combine this experience with our advanced technologies to offer the market these additional language services.”
Jon Stradling, HSBC UK head of large corporates for the south region, said: “We’re delighted to have helped SDL make this strategic move and increase its presence and expertise in these two important sectors for the company. As a result, the business now has a bespoke offering for its customers and one which will help SDL continue on its growth path.”
Jon Lavin, Lloyds Bank relationship director, London & South East Commercial Banking, said: “SDL is an innovative business and this strategic acquisition will help the Group to accelerate its growth as a key player in rapidly expanding end markets. We’re looking forward to building a strong, long-term relationship with SDL as it cements its position as a leading UK technology business.”
