Bournemouth: Public-private partnership delivers new homes
Bournemouth Development Company’s latest scheme, the £12 million Treetops development, was recently completed offering an innovative collection of 46 high-quality homes for rent in a convenient town-centre location.
Completed in February 2021, the Treetops development, located in Bournemouth town centre, offers one, two and three-bedroom homes that will help to create a vibrant community in the heart of the seaside town.
Bournemouth Development Company (BDC) is a 50:50 partnership between BCP Council and national urban regenerator Muse Developments, a Morgan Sindall Group company. It was established in 2011 to help regenerate Bournemouth town centre.
Treetops is BDC’s latest development, which as well as providing high-quality, contemporary homes for local families, will also return profits back to BCP Council for investment in future regeneration projects – two of the main aims of the BDC partnership.
The development will be owned and operated by the council’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Seascape Homes & Property. In keeping with BDC’s aims to support the local economy, local company Parsons & Joyce was the main contractor for the scheme.
Having attracted high levels of interest and with over 50% of apartments reserved prior to completion, Treetops is now starting to welcome new residents following its completion in line with government Covid-19 guidelines.
BDC has also recently broken ground on the next stage of its wider masterplan, a 44-apartment development to the west of Bournemouth’s town centre on Durley Road, due for completion in 2022.

BCP Council purchased Treetops from BDC as a long-term investment asset. The homes are being operated as a private-sector rental scheme via the council’s wholly-owned services company Seascape Homes & Property under a 25-year lease.
