A Hampshire manufacturing firm is keeping its production line rolling to manufacture essential components during the coronavirus crisis.

Fareham-based Barnbrook Systems has a dedicated team in action at its factory to fulfil vital contracts.

They include actuators which are built into the top of extinguishers and fire suppression systems to trigger a spray or foam.

The 40-strong business’ patented technology allows the devices to be activated automatically as well as manually when a blaze breaks out or is detected.

Independent family firm Barnbrook Systems also has engineers and senior staff on duty at its Fareham Park Road site, while office, sales and administrative employees are working remotely.

Tony Barnett, managing director, said: “We find ourselves in an unprecedented set of circumstances yet some of our work is absolutely essential.

“This includes our core contracts for actuators and to a lesser degree our work on brake controllers for trains.

“The welfare of our people is our utmost priority and we have introduced stringent measures to meet the regulations surrounding social distancing, health and safety.

“I would like to pay tribute to all of those staff keeping the production lines rolling. They are showing tremendous professionalism, commitment, loyalty to the company and courage at this difficult time.”

Barnbrook Systems was founded more than 40 years ago. It designs, manufactures and supplies a range of electro-mechanical, solid state switching devices and systems.

The firm serves sectors including rail, aviation, aerospace, defence, maritime and commercial industries.

Barnett said: “Our office team is working from home and our sales executives are still in contact with suppliers and customers.

“Everything is going as smoothly as it can at the moment and we look forward to playing our part in the economic recovery when we emerge from this crisis. In the meantime our best wishes remain with all.”

The firm, a longstanding member of the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC), was due to attend the Farnborough International Air Show this summer before it was cancelled.
