Grant Thornton has announced the appointment of Paul Holland as assurance director across the Thames Valley and Southampton region.

Holland joins with more than 20 years’ experience across financial auditing and most recently was head of UK Sustainability Services at KPMG.

At Grant Thornton, he will be working broadly across mainstream financial auditing, including helping sustainability focussed and purpose led businesses to unlock their potential growth. Many businesses face a challenge when reporting on sustainability and other non-financial matters as they can be difficult to measure. Holland’s experience and unique knowledge provides an opportunity to apply a new lens for clients, in terms of environmental and social aspects, but also to enhance Grant Thornton’s wider non-financial assurance offering.

Holland spent most of his career working primarily on mid-market financial audits, but since a sustainability focused secondment 10 years ago with the Prince of Wales, he has spent much of his time providing organisations with sustainability measurement, reporting and assurance services.

Having worked across a broad range of sectors including financial services, retail and consumer markets, telecoms, construction, real estate and manufacturing, Holland has worked with some of the UK’s largest companies such as Tesco, John Lewis, and Vodafone. His new role will see him continue to be at the forefront of non-financial measurement, reporting and assurance, and working with leading businesses in this area. He is also looking forward to extending the sustainability and non-financial focus beyond FTSE 100 companies and toward those operating in the mid-market and SME space.

Holland commented, “After two decades within the ‘big four’, moving to Grant Thornton is a great new challenge. A wide range of stakeholders are putting more and more pressure on organisations to improve on their sustainability  and wider non-financial performance, to report publicly on their strategy and results, and to obtain independent assurance over their reports and data. Using my experience to help our clients navigate the complexities of their reporting, in hand with financial auditing, is where I can add value to bring their environmental, social and other important non-financial impacts to life.”

Jim Rogers, practice lead for Thames Valley and Southampton, Grant Thornton UK LLP said: “We are incredibly pleased to have Paul on board with us and are confident that he will be a huge asset to the business. Paul has such a diverse range of experience and will add real value to our client offering, particularly in areas where we are seeing a rise in demand and interest. We look forward to working with Paul and introducing him to our valued clients.”
