Demolition work at an outdated office building to kick start the development of new Grade A office space on Basing View, Basingstoke, is now under way.

Contractor Hughes and Salvidge has been appointed to carry out the demolition of Norden House, with internal work to start before the building is demolished in July. Contractors working onsite will follow the government’s social distancing guidance.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council purchased Norden House in 2018 for redevelopment, with funding from the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership.

The demolition of Norden House will pave the way for Neon, a new 45,000 sq ft Grade A office building, designed to deliver high quality, energy efficient and flexible office space to meet BREEAM Excellent and EPC A standards.

Located within the Basing View Enterprise Zone and a short walk from Basingstoke train station and the town centre, the five-storey building will include a double height atrium and ground floor business lounge.

Qualifying businesses moving into the Neon space will also be able to enjoy business rates relief of up to £275,000 over five years.

To encourage sustainable travel to work, Neon will be equipped with showers, changing and drying facilities and an adjacent three-storey car park will have electric charging points and 57 cycle spaces.

Neon, which is targeted for occupation in 2022, is one of a number of new developments at Basing View, including the new 60,000 sq ft Florence Building, a new business-class Village Hotel and a new pre-let 45,000 sq ft headquarters for international pharmaceutical firm, Eli Lilly and Company.

John Izett, cabinet member for Regeneration and Property at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, said: “It is good news that redevelopment of this gateway site will soon get under way and marks another important milestone in our transformation of Basing View

“I am particularly pleased with the sustainability and efficiency standards Neon is designed to achieve, as a council that is committed to tackling climate change.

“As the UK economy looks to start recovery I am confident about Basingstoke's credentials as an attractive office location for the future.”
