Theresa May MP opened Thames Valley office of zero-carbon placemaker

Former Prime Minister, Theresa May MP has officially opened the Thames Valley office of zero-carbon placemaker, Thakeham Group.

Thakeham is a Sussex-based, infrastructure-led community creator and strategic land promoter. The office, located in Wokingham, will be for staff working exclusively on Thames Valley-based development projects.

Thakeham was the UK’s first housebuilder to sign the SME Climate Commitment to join the United Nations’ Race To Zero campaign. This means that Thakeham is leading the charge towards zero-carbon placemaking, combining ultra-high energy efficiency with renewable technology to achieve the highest environmental credentials.

The office reflects Thakeham’s growing commercial presence in the region and is in response to the unique needs of the Thames Valley.

Rob Boughton, Thakeham Group CEO, said: “Thank you to Theresa May MP for honouring us by opening our new Thames Valley office. Like many UK regions, Thames Valley is faced with a diverse range of challenges – old and new; the demand for affordable housing is more acute than ever. Climate change and new regulations as a result of the covid pandemic prompt urgent innovation.

“An aging population, the search for land and our responsibility to protect the environment for future generations further sharpen our thinking. Thakeham’s unrivalled passion for community creation places us in a unique position to ease the burden on registered providers in Thames Valley – to help them meet these challenges head on.

“More than ever before, residents of Thames Valley are turning to their local authorities, planners and developers to create thriving new communities. Our new local base will help us to understand and deliver for residents in the area.”

May MP said: “Thank you to Thakeham for inviting me to open its new premises. Throughout my political career, I have taken a keen interest in planning and am keen to see the development of sustainable homes. I welcome any business that is serious about understanding the unique challenges of the Thames Valley area and is committed to establishing partnerships that help residents with the wide range of challenges we face.”
