Airsys.Cloud’s app helps lone workers to connect
A new app from Romsey-based Airsys connects lone and remote workers to existing communications systems.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic many businesses have found new ways to operate. One of the biggest changes that we saw in 2020 was how remote working was no longer a ‘benefit’, but the norm,” said Richard Webb, director of software solutions at Airsys, which is a distributor of two-way radio, broadband push-to-talk and accessories, as well as a value added service provider.
“Remote working is set to become a permanent feature as we continue into 2021. By 2025, it is estimated 70% of the workforce will be working remotely at least five days a month,” he added.
The company said this shift raises new challenges, for example, how do you keep communications going with staff who are working from home when ‘home’ is out of range of your existing instant communications system?
“Research by the Health and Safety Executive shows that 49% of UK lone workers say they have felt uncomfortable while working alone,” Webb pointed out.
By downloading and installing Airsys.Cloud, a broadband Push-to-Talk platform, as an app to their mobile device, a remote worker can be part of the conversation by joining an existing communications system. The app operates by using land mobile radio (LMR) bridges to connect different devices on different platforms and, because it works on a mobile network or via wi-fi, communication is instant and range is global.
Lone worker protection can be deployed at any time over the air and alerts can be triggered by:
- Emergencies
- Man down
- Impact
- Lack of movement
- Periodic checks
- Connection and battery status
“For lone workers, simply add the Airsys.Cloud BS8484:2016-compliant Lone Worker Protection (LWP) Service ‘bolt on’ to a compliant device and you can provide your staff with security and confidence to carry out their role, as well as potentially decreasing your insurance premiums for lone workers,” said Webb.
