Ocean Infinity sets up state-of-the-art facility in Southampton
Marine robotics company Ocean Infinity has set up its state-of-the-art facility in the Woolston regeneration area of Southampton. The company has located its control, data, maintenance and engineering centre in the former Vosper Thornycroft shipyard. The company’s centre will be developed as a remote control and data centre for robotic vessels, ensuring Woolston, and the wider Solent area, have a significant role to play in the next chapter of marine development.
Ocean Infinity's relocation will directly create many high-value positions and support the local marine technology industry and supply chains. It will also lay the grounds for innovation around low-carbon marine technology at a site ideally located within the Solent. Ocean Infinity expects this to lead to collaborative projects with other local technology companies and Southampton’s universities.
"We are fully invested in Southampton and the marine technology industry for the foreseeable future", said Ocean Infinity Project Manager Max Worsley.
The facility was designed by South Coast architects Boyle+Summers, with the design stages led by Associate Director Steve Smith, and Project Architect Alex Watson, who worked closely with Ocean Infinity from conception through to tender stage. Technical Associates Steven Dorricott and David Hawkins then saw the project through the construction and completion stages of the project.
Dorricott said: "The Woolston area of Southampton has a proud maritime heritage, having been the home to Vosper Thornycroft ship yard for many years. This project will inject a new lease of life into the maritime industry locally and create many jobs."
